MMI driver clients made their mothers’ proud at Darlington Raceway (SC) on Mother’s Day weekend, placing the top two finishers in the Sprint Cup race and the top five finishers in the Nationwide race.  Both races were won by Denny Hamlin, who edged out Jamie McMurray in the Cup race and JGR teammate Kyle Busch in the earlier Nationwide race.

MMI partnered with photo powerhouse Getty Images to put on a two-day lifestyle photo shoot with a dozen MMI clients at the NC Music Factory facility in uptown Charlotte.  Drivers like Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Jamie McMurray and other Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Truck Series drivers spent several hours with two Getty photographers in roaming the old textile mill turned entertainment venue.  The collection of imagery turned out amazing and shows the non-racing side of each driver. Many commented that this wasn’t the “usual NASCAR shoot” and all seemed to enjoy the change of scenery from the typical studio posing.

Denny Hamlin started his official @DennyHamlin Twitter account this fall with some help from MMI and he has quickly adopted the social networking tool as a means to communicate with NASCAR fans.  @DennyHamlin has over 9,100 followers and is rapidly growing. His tweeting efforts have not gone unnoticed. In fact, he just made the “Tweet of the Week” at SportsIllustrated.com. And at SceneDaily.com, master Tweeter and beat writer Jeff Gluck even noted Denny’s rise in his Twitter follower rankings.  Denny has since jumped to 10th in Gluck’s December rankings, yet is still a long way off from front leader Juan Pablo Montoya.  But Denny has his sights on rising higher not only in driver rankings (he finished fifth this season), but also in Twitter rankings.

Live from Manhattan

NASCAR PR is putting the Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers through a whirlwind tour of media in NYC this week.  Check out this clip of Kasey Kahne winning the Shock Absorber award on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon TV show.  Kasey and Denny Hamlin got into a Guinness World Record-setting pie throwing contest on the Live with Regis & Kelly show, while Tony Stewart did a street interview on ABC’s Good Morning America (click for video) and that’s not all, just a taste. Speaking of taste, Kasey tweeted the following from backstage at the Regis & Kelly show from his twitter.com/kaseykahne account:  “Still wiping this crap off but glad I didn’t take one in the face. That would be a mess. I did nail a guy right in the forehead.”

Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, and Kasey Kahne are in.  The top 12 Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers were finally determined last Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway.  Hometown hero Denny Hamlin dominated yet again on the 1-mile oval and recorded his first-ever win at RIR.  Chase standings are reset based on number of wins so Stewart moves from first to second with  30 bonus points (10 points per win) while Hamlin and Kahne sit one place back with 20 bonus points. Kyle Busch nearly raced his way into the top 12 with a fifth-place finish, only to fall short by eight points from the 12th spot, despite four wins on the season.  The first race is New Hampshire, a track that Stewart and Hamlin have won at before and one that Kahne is capable of winning at.

Denny Hamlin’s Seats Giveaway is Huge Success

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Denny Hamlin wanted to help NASCAR fans during the economic down turn by giving away his personal 4 tickets to every race and getting each track to match it. MMI created an online entry system allowing fans to enter the give-away and submit their reason why they should be the recipient of the tickets. The response has been overwhelming. Halfway through the season, Denny has helped over 120 race fans get to the track that would not have been able to go otherwise.
