MMI linked up StopRepairBills.com, a leading provider of vehicle service contracts, with Brian Scott to pilot the  StopRepairBills.com  No. 11 Toyota Camry for Braun Racing in two NASCAR Nationwide Series races at Daytona and Las Vegas.  In his season debut at Daytona, Scott finished 19th by avoiding the big wreck that took out Danica Patrick and many others in the stacked field. Scott is competing for the 2010 Nationwide Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year award after a very successful 2009 campaign on the Truck series that netted him one win, seven top-5’s and 13 top-10 finishes.

Jamie McMurray found a new ride for 2010 and quickly found himself in Victory Lane at NASCAR’s biggest race — the Daytona 500 — celebrating with car owner Chip Ganassi and Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris. McMurray thanked them and fellow car owner Felix Sabates for bringing Jamie on board to pilot the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Chevrolet for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing this season after four years with Roush-Fenway Racing.  McMurray’s fourth career Sprint Cup victory marked his third win on a superspeedway and puts him on top in the 2010 Race for the Chase.  Fighting back tears of joy at times, Jamie spent several hours in post-race media obligations Sunday night at the track and then boarded a NASCAR plane on  Monday morning to do a media tour in New York City.  Sometime on Monday he plans to grab a Big Mac at McDonald’s as promised in his Victory Lane celebration.

SI.com Tweet of the Week

Denny Hamlin started his official @DennyHamlin Twitter account this fall with some help from MMI and he has quickly adopted the social networking tool as a means to communicate with NASCAR fans.  @DennyHamlin has over 9,100 followers and is rapidly growing. His tweeting efforts have not gone unnoticed. In fact, he just made the “Tweet of the Week” at SportsIllustrated.com. And at SceneDaily.com, master Tweeter and beat writer Jeff Gluck even noted Denny’s rise in his Twitter follower rankings.  Denny has since jumped to 10th in Gluck’s December rankings, yet is still a long way off from front leader Juan Pablo Montoya.  But Denny has his sights on rising higher not only in driver rankings (he finished fifth this season), but also in Twitter rankings.

In a live, special Speed TV press conference, Kyle Busch announced that he will enter two Toyota Tundras full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series beginning in 2010. Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), which has fielded numerous Late Model stock cars for Busch and others since late 2007, will step up to the Camping World Truck Series with youth behind the wheel and experience on top of the pit box.  Busch will pilot the No. 18 Miccosukee Resort & Gaming Toyota Tundra whenever the Camping World Truck Series runs in companion with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  For the non-companion races, the No. 18 Tundra will be driven by 24-year-old Brian Ickler (pronounced “IKE-ler”).  Running the full schedule for KBM will be 20-year-old Tayler Malsam in the No. 56 Toyota Tundra.

Inside NASCAR article

Inside NASCAR article

MMI made the home page at NASCAR.com as one of their Inside NASCAR feature articles that takes an in-depth look at the industry.  Writer Joe Menzer spent some time with MMI to try and get an understanding of who MMI is, what we do, and how it all began.  Founder and President Cary Agajanian gives great insight into the foundation of MMI while Rod Moskowitz and Jeff Dickerson talk about the early years when the company was just finding traction.  They gave Joe so much material, that he claims his first draft was 7,000 words.  It got edited down for the internet, but it’s still a long, but interesting inside look at the company.

Kyle Busch made history and, at the same time, took control of his destiny this season in winning the Sharpie 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway last Saturday night. Busch’s fourth Sprint Cup Series win of 2009 pushed Busch to the record for the most wins under the age of 25 with 16 wins. Busch surpassed Jeff Gordon and will likely add to his total with 22 more points races remaining until he turns 25 next May. The win also put Busch on the verge of re-joining the top 12 Chase for the Sprint Cup contenders with only two races remaining before the Chase begins Sept. 20 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The win bumped the 24-year-old up two spots to 13th in the championship standings, and he’s now just 34 points behind 12th-place Matt Kenseth.

NASCAR fan Donna Musgrave became the newest millionaire last Saturday night when Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon crossed the finish line in first and second place respectively at the Chicagoland Speedway. Musgrave is the winner of LifeLock’s “Lock In 2 Win” sweepstakes, a promotion allowing fans to select the top two winners of the LifeLock 400 race at Michigan International Speedway on June 14 with the same drivers finishing first and second or second and first in Saturday night’s LifeLock.com 400 in Chicago.

MMI concepted and developed the consumer promotion for LifeLock. The odds for Gordon and Martin to repeat as 1-2 at Chicagoland were 1 in 815,409.

When asked by NASCAR media immediately following the race what plans they had for the million, “We’re going to have to think about it. We are so used to working and we’re not people that can sit still. Of course we have five kids and already have six voicemails,” said Donna.

“Man, that’s what I’m talking about LifeLock, this was really special,” said race winner Mark Martin after congratulating the Musgraves in Victory Lane.

Both Martin and Gordon finished in the same order in the LifeLock 400 in June at Michigan International Speedway.

“We tried to give the Musgrave family a good experience and got to know them well this weekend,” said LifeLock CEO Todd Davis. “The last 18 laps we were together, tears started flowing from everyone at LifeLock. Being with them just made our sponsorship that much more special.”
