R/C car grid

MMI worked with Kyle Busch and NOS Energy Drink to put on a special R/C (radio-control) racing event at Charlotte Motor Speedway entitled Rowdy R/C All Stars presented by NOS Energy Drink. Busch, aka Rowdy, invited out some of his NASCAR colleagues to join him and some of the top R/C racers in America from Team Associated.  Joining Busch were  Juan Pablo Montoya, Scott Speed, Michael McDowell, TJ Bell, Matt DiBenedetto, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Bobby Labonte and NASCAR crew chief, Dave Rogers. Busch took the Celebrity class victory by easily maneuvering his NOS-sponsored 1:10 scale No. 18 Team Associated R/C truck through the 50 ft. by 100 ft. dirt and asphalt off-road track that featured double jumps, hairpin turns, moguls, and a steep dirt berm that led into a 2 ft. high kicker jump.  Busch turned his short course electric truck just like the professionals, making minimal mistakes, to out-run runner-up Scott Speed. He later  tested his skills against one of the best in the world, Team Associated driver Ryan Maifield, driving a 1:8 scale nitro buggy in the pro demonstration race.

NOS Energy Drink chose American Drifting champion Chris Forsberg to launch its first-ever national TV advertising campaign.  The 30 sec. spots will feature a “Day in the Life of Chris Forsberg” as he tests his NOS Energy Drink 350Z at the infamous “Horse Thief Mile” track at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosemond, Calif.  NOS Energy Drink just renewed their primary car sponsorship of Chris Forsberg Racing’s Formula Drift team for three additional years, making it the longest sponsorship contract in the sport’s relatively short history.   Stated Forsberg:  “It shows NOS’ dedication to the sport of Drifting and the active motorsports lifestyle.”

The event featured four drift champions — Samuel Hubinette, Tanner Foust, Ryuji Miki and Forsberg — and two international drivers from France and Japan. Chris Forsberg Wins Formula Drift Championship

Chris Forsberg won the Formula Drift Pro Championship this last weekend at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale CA. Going into the event, Forsberg and Ryan Tuerck were sitting 1 and 2 in the points and were both able to win the title.  Forsberg was able to qualify and get to the Top 16 bracket to take home the championship while Tuerck went on to win the event.  According to primary sponsor NOS Energy Drink, this is their first-ever championship out of all their motorsports programs. Forsberg also won the Discount Tire “Tires.com Triple Crown” which selected three of the top events of the year for an additional award. This is the first time a driver has won both in the same year.  MMI represents three of the top 5 drivers in the Formula Drift championship.

NOS Energy commemorative guitar

Kyle Busch returned to Nashville, Tenn. to race on Sunday and while there he connected with Mike Curb and the Nashville Music Alliance to announce the donation of 150 Les Paul guitars to create two music labs  for two local Nashville high schools.  Kyle and Mike worked with his sponsor NOS Energy Drink and the Nashville Alliance for Public Education to create the program.  The labs will be named the “Les Paul Memorial Guitar Labs” in honor of the late Les Paul, who passed away last week at age 94. A few special, Kyle Busch-signed commemorative guitars including graphics from Kyle’s NASCAR Nationwide Series win at Nashville earlier in the year will be auctioned off for charity. Read a nice article at Tennessean.com about the program.
